Samsung Galaxy A54 5G

Getting close to the premium flagship territory

The Samsung Galaxy A54 5G is a great mid-range phone. It offers a sleek design, a beautiful 120Hz display, plenty of power under the hood, and a triple camera setup on the back.

Pros

Excellent screen for a mid-range device

Solid playing camera

Glass back this year instead of plastic

Cons

Mediocre ultra-wide camera

The Pixel 7 is similar in price, with a better camera and SoC

Useless macro sensors

Samsung's Galaxy A54 is a big improvement over the company's previous mid-range A-series offerings. Instead of a plastic body, you get actual Gorilla Glass on the front and back sides, even though the frame is still plastic. For $450, you get a gorgeous 120Hz OLED display with a capable 50MP, f/1.8 main camera. The ultra-wide camera is solid too, but the third lens is mostly a pointless macro sensor.

Inside, the phone runs on Samsung's Exynos 1380, which is a respectable mid-range chip that surprisingly handles thermals quite well. It also supports expandable storage, which is a rarity for phones above the budget territory. IP67 and stereo speakers round out the rest of this package that punches above its mid-range price class. There is no wireless charging, however.

Truth be told, the Pixel 7a has a better main camera and a flagship-level SoC that can handle more intelligent machine learning tasks, but the A54 has a better screen and longer battery life thanks to its large 5,000 mAh battery, so if you're re on the market to buy a phone for less than $500, you have to weigh your options.

iPhone 14 Plus

If you want an iPhone to go for hours (and sometimes even days), then the Apple iPhone 14 Plus is the model for you. While it has the same processor, camera, color availability, storage options, and features as the iPhone 14, the 14 Plus is much bigger—thanks to its larger display (6.1 inches compared to 6.7 inches, respectively). The byproduct of a bigger smartphone in this instance is a bigger battery, with more juice to get you through the day.

While the iPhone 14 Plus is the same size as the iPhone 14 Pro Max (further down the list), it’s not as power hungry, which means the battery life is more efficient and lasts much longer. On average, the iPhone 14 Plus could get you through two days of light use before it needs to be charged.

Screen size: 6.7 inches | Rear cameras: 2 | Processor: A15 Bionic | Starting price (with carrier activation): $899

2023 iPhone 15 by Apple is increasingly being discussed.

Apple will launch its newest and greatest iPhone next month. Apple may make a major upgrade that will beat its only competitor, Android.

If you want the fastest phone in the world then the iPhone 15 could be one to watch out for. This latest and greatest device from Apple may launch next month and looks set to lead the competition in terms of performance.

It's no secret that Apple has made some of the fastest phones in the world, with the flagship iPhone 14 Pro Max topping the processor speed test.

However, reported by the Mirror, Friday (25/8/2023), the iPhone 15 can take things to a whole new level and overwhelm competitors like Samsung and Google.

While nothing has been confirmed yet, rumors are circulating on the web that Apple will be including its newest A17 chip inside the iPhone 15 and that could be a great thing.

In fact, some predict it will feature 3nm (nanometer) technology compared to the 4nm currently used on the A16 Bionic. If true, this would make a huge difference as 3nm chips are capable of doing more tasks at the same time while using less power.

Elaborating further, the team at MacRumors say 3nm should deliver the biggest performance and efficiency leap in Apple's chips since 2020.

With Apple already in the lead, a major update to its next device could leave its Android rivals even further behind.

One tech tipster, named Unknownz21 has uploaded the expected specs of the A17 on X (formerly Twitter), which gives an idea of how great things are going to be.

According to the thread, this chip will get 3nm technology plus feature 6 CPU Cores + 6 GPU Cores as well as a speed of 3.70 GHz, up from around 3.4GHz on the current iPhone 14.

Of course, Apple never revealed any improvements prior to its launch, so everyone will have to wait and see what this new device will feature. Thankfully, it didn't take long to find out as the Mirror predicts that September 12th will be the date it all comes to light.

Nokia C7, Affordable Version of N8
NOKIA C7 staying digadang as an affordable version of the N8 because of its smaller, some features that carried even lower, and the price is cheaper than the N8.

The first impression of concern is the touch screen. Unlike the iPhone's touch screen or HTC, which are both not easily scratched because of friction, at least they do not require a protective coating such as screen embedded in the C7. Protective screen that is more easily scratched even make a touch screen Nokia C7 seemed dirty.

Unlike previous Nokia phone that delivers 3G video call option after you enter the destination phone number in C7 video call can only be done with a number that has been included in the list of contacts. Front camera can also be used to take photographs, only its VGA resolution makes the picture less than satisfactory results although the memory size for one photo VGA only 31 Kb. Therefore, you should use the main camera located behind. Besides being equipped with F2.8/4.3 sized lens, this camera is also equipped with two flash lamps that will ensure the picture looks quite clear, even in the dark though. Resolution is approximately 1832x3264 pixels with a size of one image takes approximately 543 Kb of memory.

Rear camera, which is flanked by two speakers to sound out, is also able to make a video with quality ranging from high definition format MP4, and 3GP television display quality. HD quality video resolution of 1280x720 pixels with a capacity reaching approximately 12 085 bitrate kbit / sec or setera with 25 frames per second. Photos and videos can be directly edited in the C7 by using applications that have been integrated in it. Users can edit photos, either to rotate, resize, crop, put clip art, effects, draw, bubble, frame, remove red eye, giving the stamp, animation, and more. While video editing applications can be done also in the C7 without having to move video to the PC. Here users can even create videos that assembled from existing photographs, or a combination of photos and video.

For business video, C7 also provides additional direct access to video from leading foreign media, like YouTube, the video belong to National Geographic, Movie Teaser, E! Online, and CNN video. All these applications can be added by downloading directly via Ovi Store. The same also applies if the user wants to download the latest games at C7. But for the radio, users can simply enjoy it by looking for existing FM channels automatically or manually.

Nokia tried to classify the features with similar functions into one foler. One is the social networking features that go into a specific folder. To open, you not only need an internet connection but also to go through Ovi account. If you do not memilii Ovi account so impossible you can go to social networks that exist in the C7. But if it is entered through Ovi, you will be presented with not only up, but also Twitter and RenRen. This last name is one of China's largest social networking formerly Xiaonei.

OS carried homemade Nokia makes C7 does not depend on the application made by other companies, including maps and location applications that can be obtained via the Ovi Maps. Help satellites that can detect the presence of mobile phones capable of making direct C7 to the streets in question. Ovi Maps embedded is the latest version so as to show the streets anywhere in Indonesia. Even the maps Ovi allows users to share location, of course with fellow owners Ovi account.

For connection, C7 equipped with wifi signal capture capabilities and technology transfer via bluetooth version 3.0. For a transfer using a USB cable, the resulting speed can reach 5.5 Mb / sec. Nokia N8 comes with 12-meg lens

Nokia N8 comes with 12-meg lens
It’s been a while since we saw a sleek phone from Nokia. So it’s refreshing to see the new N8, unveiled today, look the part with a large 3.5-inch screen as well as widget-like shortcuts for social networking sites on its front screen.

More interestingly, it comes with a camera that boasts no less than 12 megapixels – the Carl Zeiss lens here actually captures more info than a lot of standalone cameras out there. It also comes with a handy Xenon flash, though we won’t go so far as to say you can junk your SLR camera.

LG Mini GD880

LG Mini GD880In a smartphone market crowded with gizmos of all shapes and functions, first impressions count. A lot.

Unfortunately, despite being called a “pocket rocket” by LG, the Korean electronics giant’s newly launched Mini GD880 fashion phone did not get my hopes sky high at first glance.

Its main screen menus are a noticeably slow when you swipe your finger across the display to move them, especially when you compare the phone to an iPhone or Nexus One. And for many users, that is as good a test as any they will carry out at a store.

Okay, if you have the patience to try out other features, there are some nifty ones. One of them is the ability to control the phone from your desktop using Bluetooth or USB. In other words, you can see what your phone is seeing, including its camera, from your PC. A nice way of spying on your colleagues at work, without looking like you are looking at them, perhaps?

Nokia 5800 Xpress (courtesy of Nokia)

Nokia 5800 XpressMusic
Estimated retail price: S$798
Availability: From 28th Feb 2009, Saturday (tomorrow)

But I totally agree with Gin and Alf that the key differentiator is the “Comes with Music” service by Nokia. Brilliant tactical move by the handset giant. Basically, it allows users unlimited downloads of tracks from Nokia’s music store for one year. According to Nokia, they have about four million tunes in the store. Operator charges are of course separate. Singapore is the first country in Asia to run this service; it was first launched in UK last October.
